Lesson 3 of 4
Module 3 · Freelancing for Beginners
Price and Pitch Your Work
Set fair prices you can explain, write short proposals that win jobs, and agree the scope before you start.
About 20 minutes
How to price
Three simple ways to set a price:
| Method | How | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Per project | A fixed price for a defined result | Most beginner work: "3 flyers for ₦15,000" |
| Per hour | Your hourly rate × hours | Ongoing or unclear work |
| Packages | Basic, Standard, Premium | Fiverr gigs and repeat clients |
To find a starting point:
- Look at what others with similar samples charge on platforms and locally.
- Estimate your time honestly, including changes and messages.
- Start slightly lower while you build reviews, then raise prices every few jobs.
Write a winning proposal
Clients read many proposals. Keep yours short and about them:
Hi Bola,
You need 3 flyers for your restaurant's weekend promo that look good on
Instagram. I design for food businesses. Here are two recent samples:

My plan: one bold design with your menu photos, in square and story
sizes, delivered by Thursday, with two rounds of changes.
Price: ₦15,000. Happy to start today if the details suit you.
Tosin- Show you read the brief in the first line.
- Proof: one or two relevant samples.
- Plan: what you'll deliver and when.
- Price and next step.
Agree the scope in writing
Before you start, confirm in a message or email:
- What you'll deliver, in what format.
- The deadline.
- How many rounds of changes are included.
- The price and payment terms.
This prevents "just one more small change" turning into ten.
Try it
- Create three packages (Basic, Standard, Premium) for your offer, with prices.
- Find a real job post on a platform or social media and write a proposal using the four parts.
- Write a scope message template you can reuse with every client.
